16 Memorably Trolls Movie Quotes (Pinky Promise!)

Updated:

After the first Trolls film came out in 2016, it was so widely received that we got Trolls: World Tour only four years later, in 2020.

While the first film is about accepting oneself, the second deals with how our differences make us all unique.

Those themes make for some memorable quotes, which you can see below, including a short description of their context.

So, without further ado, here are some of the best Trolls movie quotes (from Trolls and Trolls: World Tour.)

1. “Here, right here, is where we will rebuild our civilization! It has everything we need: fresh air, clean water… and sweet acoustics!” – King Peppy (Trolls)

Shortly after the Trolls escape from the tree where they were held captive by the Bergens, they come to what will become their new home.

It is a beautiful place, filled with everything they need. As King Peppy (Jeffrey Tambor) says, “Here, right here, is where we will rebuild our civilization! It has everything we need: fresh air, clean water… and sweet acoustics!”

Sure, the trolls need to eat and drink, but how could they ever have a happy life without those perfect acoustics?

After all, a troll is to singing as a Bergen is to hunger.

2. “My father banished you 20 years ago. Have you been standing behind that plant this whole time?” – King Gristle (Trolls)

By far one of the best scenes in the movie, it occurs around the halfway mark when Chef Bergen has returned to Bergen town.

During a mysterious and pompous entrance, we get this gem. “My father banished you 20 years ago. Have you been behind that plant this whole time?”

Because Chef Bergen (Christine Baranski) appeared from behind a plant, it is unsurprising that King Gristle (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) thought that.

While she was not behind that plant for twenty years, it always makes you laugh.

King Gristle is not the brightest Bergen out there, but you would think that as king, he would at least have some brains.

3. “You guys are a lot of fun. You know, I gotta go…got some cloud stuff to take care of. Catch you on the way back? Unless [in a deep voice] you die.” – Cloud Guy (Trolls)

Cloud Guy (Walt Dohrn) is one of the most iconic characters from Trolls, even though he only gets a few minutes of screen time.

Branch (Justin Timberlake) and Poppy (Anna Kendrick) are on their way to save Poppy’s friends from the Bergens when they come to a large branching tunnel system.

One way will lead to Bergen town and possible death, and the others will also lead to death, so how do they know which way to go?

By following a talking cloud who wears socks with no shoes and wants a high-five from Branch, what other way would this scene go down?

In actuality, Branch decides to try to murder Cloud Guy instead, who leads them exactly where they need to go.

Once they reach their destination, Cloud Guy leaves them with an ominous warning as he sinks back into the tunnels.

“You guys are a lot of fun. You know, I gotta go…got some cloud stuff to take care of. Catch you on the way back? Unless [in a deep voice] you die.”

Nothing like a weird talking cloud telling you that you might die after leading you to Bergen town filled with Bergens who want to eat you.

4. “Thank you for the demonstration. Really cleared up exactly what I will not be doing.” – Branch (Trolls)

Right before trying to kill the Cloud Man, he gives Branch a demonstration on how to do a high five.

Why? Because all he asks to show Branch and Poppy the correct path is that Branch gives him a high five.

“Thank you for the demonstration. Really cleared up exactly what I will not be doing.” Branch is adamant that he will not do that, but Poppy convinces him otherwise.

Did you think that Cloud Man was going to be nice, though? Wrong! He puts Branch through some embarrassing handshakes like a shark in a cage.

Now you can see why Branch wants to murder Cloud Man so badly with two halves of a stick.

5. “How did singing kill your grandma? What song was she singing?” – Poppy (Trolls)

In one of the movie’s most heart-touching moments, we learn why Branch no longer sings and is the Debbie Downer that he is.

Poppy asks him why he won’t sing, and he says it is because singing killed his grandma, prompting her to ask, “How did singing kill your grandma? What song was she singing?”

We learn that he lived with his grandma when he was younger, who always loved to listen to him sing.

One day though, he was singing too far out on one of the tree branches of their home, leading the Bergens straight to them.

His grandma jumps in front of him, saving him from being taken and eaten, which results in her becoming a Bergen dinner.

After that, he swore never to sing again, and his skin, personality, and emotional state turned grey.

6. “With me in charge, I’ll serve you troll every day of the year. With me as queen, all of life will be a never-ending feast of happiness! Come on, eat! Eat!!!” – Chef (Trolls)

Chef Bergen has a complicated relationship with the other Bergens, herself, and the trolls, making her character great.

She isn’t just a one-dimensional villain. Instead, we see the desires and goals that drive her every decision.

“With me in charge, I’ll serve you troll every day of the year. With me as queen, all of life will be a never-ending feast of happiness! Come on, eat! Eat!!!”

When it seems like everything is going according to plan, the trolls escape again, and Chef Bergen is furious.

For the last several decades, she has been hunting the trolls to get her place amongst the Bergens back, but when she finally succeeds, she fails again.

Desperately trying to get King Gristle to eat Branch, we get this little rant during her last-ditch effort to save her rank.

It really helps round out her character and lets us know what she truly wants.

7. “Are you scrapbooking my plan?” – Branch (Trolls)

Poppy and Branch’s relationship takes quite a while to develop throughout the movie, and this scene is a perfect example of that.

Branch gives a long speech about how they can get into Bergen town and then get captured and eaten.

Poppy, though, has a different, more positive outlook on the plan, which she includes in her scrapbook of the plan.

Noticing what she is doing, Branch asks, “Are you scrapbooking my plan?” Her answer is a resounding yes, and then she sprays Branch in the face with glitter.

8. “What kind of total babe would be dressed like a scullery maid? I smell like gravy.” – Bridget (Trolls)

Bridget (Zooey Deschanel) is possibly one of the most underrated characters in this whole movie. She is an important character, but she isn’t one of the cute trolls.

Since she isn’t beautiful, she doesn’t get the attention and appreciation she deserves for delivering an important message.

She says, “What kind of total babe would be dressed like a scullery maid? I smell like gravy.”

Poppy and the other trolls, though, help her look beautiful to win the heart of King Gristle in return for help saving Creek.

While this works for a bit, it obviously can not last forever, which leads to one of the movie’s best messages being shown.

Happiness does not have to come from others; it requires only ourselves to enjoy it.

She also shows that looks are only surface-deep, and love doesn’t care about your appearance if what is underneath is kind and pure.

It is a wonderful message that more people need to hear in today’s world centered around following beauty and fashion trends.

9. “Yeah, I really only have enough supplies down here to last me 10 years, 11 if I’m willing to store and drink my own sweat, which I am. You all said I was crazy, huh? Well, who’s crazy now? Me, crazy prepared!” – Branch (Trolls)

What list of the best Trolls movie quotes would be complete without this perfect gem of bunker-crazy Branch?

“Yeah, I really only have enough supplies down here to last me 10 years, 11 if I’m willing to store and drink my own sweat, which I am. You all said I was crazy, huh? Well, who’s crazy now? Me, crazy prepared!”

Branch delivers this quote to a stunned Poppy as they enter his super-duper secret bunker, where he plans to hide for the Bergen apocalypse.

Unfortunately, Poppy floods his bunker with the other trolls to convince him to accompany her to rescue her friends from the Bergens.

So much for that secret survival bunker, eh, Branch?

10. “Best friends? No one says that. Friendship takes time and years of mutual care and respect. You don’t just become best friends.” -Queen Barb (Trolls: World Tour)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onbJuRxL7gA

The rock troll Queen Barb (Rachel Bloom) is the main antagonist of Trolls: World Tour.

She’s the daughter of King Thrash (Ozzy Osbourne), and her goal is to gather all the music strings of the six different troll tribes together. Then she’ll destroy all music – except for Rock, of course!

However, she isn’t one to do it peacefully and instead decides that force is the best way to accomplish this goal.

No one wants to hand over their strings, but Poppy – now Queen Poppy of the pop trolls – thinks she can peacefully speak to Barb.

So what does she do? Why she sends Barb an invitation to a massive party, of course.

However, Barb doesn’t accept the invitation as Poppy expected.

When she sees that the invitation says that Poppy hopes to be best friends, Barb says, “Best friends? No one says that. Friendship takes time and years of mutual care and respect. You don’t just become best friends.”

The first Trolls World Tour quotes on this list say a lot about the kind of queen Barb is, and she doesn’t think there’s room for different music except her own.

So naturally, ambition and world domination come before friendship.

11. “You wanna be a good queen? Good queens actually listen.” – Branch (Trolls: World Tour)

Branch is well-known for dropping truth bombs in both Trolls and Trolls: World Tour; this is just the latest.

Throughout World Tour, Branch has supported Poppy’s every decision, and he’s finally tired of it. He doesn’t think Poppy listens to him, so he reminds that a good queen listens.

He tells her that he has been listening to her, and now it is time that she listens to him and everyone else around her.

No one can know everything, and everyone makes mistakes. That is why it is so important to have others around us to whom we can listen.

12. “Denying our differences is denying the truth of who we are.” – King Quincy (Trolls: World Tour)

By far one of the top quotes from Trolls: World Tour, King Quincy (George Clinton) delivers a sentiment that far too many of us no longer hold close.

“Denying our differences is denying the truth of who we are.” In a world where individuality is often discussed, we have all done amazing at fitting in with the status quo.

We have given up our differences to fit in with everyone else, though society has started moving towards accepting differences once again.

Your differences are what makes you, you. Never give that up for anyone because denying what makes you unique denies your very essence.

13. “Scrapbooks? Those are cut out, glued, and glittered by the winners.” -Prince D (Trolls: World Tour)

“Scrapbooks? Those are cut out, glued, and glittered by the winners.” Does that quote sound familiar to you?

Well, it should, as it is a parody of the timeless statement, “History is written by the winner, not the losers.”

What we know as history today is often told through the eyes of those who won, making it difficult to discern fact from bias.

Prince D. (Anderson .Paak) knows this personally as the history of the six Troll music strings has been twisted by the Rock trolls and those who want the facts to tell a different truth.

After he says this quote, he launches into a song where he tells the history of the six strings and what happened in the past.

Trolls: World Tour does an excellent job of showing why it is important to know about any biases that may exist in the history you are learning

14. “Now, I want you three to sit in here and think about what you’ve just done. That was a crime against music.” – Delta Dawn (Trolls: World Tour).

Poppy, Branch, and Biggie (James Corden) (and his pet worm Mr. Dinkles) have traveled to Lonesome Flats to warn the leader, mayor, and sheriff of the Country Trolls – Delta Dawn (Kelly Clarkson), of Barb.

As a country musician, Queen Dawn’s songs speak of longing and death.

But the sad themes of country music are too much for Poppy to bear. So she decides that she and her friends should get everyone into a good mood with a medley of the most important pop songs.

However, that is a terrible idea as it doesn’t sit well with Delta Dawn (who thinks the trio looks like a rainbow has beaten them up.)

So she throws them in jail.

15. “Sweetie, I have already heard about this Queen Barb and her fancy world tour. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go wash what you call ‘music’ out of my ears…” – Delta Dawn (Trolls: World Tour).

In jail, Poppy tries to warn Delta Dawn about Barb, the Queen of Rock. But Delta Dawn will have none of it, so she leaves.

Poppy tries to appeal and say that music should bring the trolls together, not divide them, but with no luck.

Branch hilariously thinks they crossed the line with “Who let the dogs out.”

16. “I… Pinky promise” – Queen Poppy (Trolls: World Tour).

Queen Poppy wants the help Biggie, but Biggie has concerns.

So Poppy swears to protect Biggie by Pinky Promise – the highest promise you can swear by in the nation of trolls.

The magic of the pinky promise travels throughout the land with hilarious responses.

Here’s the scene in full:

Biggie: “Poppy, you said this could be handled with hugs. How are we gonna hug our way out of this one?”

Poppy: “It’s okay, Biggie”

Biggie: “Really? It’s okay to be terrified? When am I gonna learn to stay away from the cotton candy?”

Poppy: “No. As your queen, I promise that I will protect you, no matter what. I… pinky promise.”

Biggie [gasps]: “Poppy, you know you can’t go back on a pinky promise!”

Poppy: “Never did, never will!”

[Biggie and Poppy make the pinky promise, and magic ripples throughout the land]

Balloon Creature [is swept away laughing]: Farewell!

Cooper (Ron Funches): “A pinky promise. Dang.”

Poppy: “Let it be so.”

Biggie: “And so it is.”

Branch [scoffs]

Pennywhistle (Charlyne Yi): “This just got real!”
